Casa Ciotti - Lazio

Built on the ancient route of the Via Flaminia, Casa Ciotti was a post house and horse exchange at the end of the 18th century. A late 17th century sundial can still be seen on the south wall of the building and was originally used to indicate the closure of the doors half an hour after sunset.

The first floor houses the historical room where, in September 1870, the papal troops signed the document certifying their surrender to General Cadorna. Eight days later the general moved in to conquer Rome through the famous Breach of the Pious Gate.

This ancient but fully restored complex has been transformed into the most delightful and comfortable apartments, elegantly furnished with original or period furnishings. Small details reveal the meticulous recovery of the original construction; the floors, doors, windows and even the bolts preserve the antique atmosphere.

Situated in the heart of the Tuscia district, Casa Ciotti is surrounded by a large garden which comprises charming green corners interspersed by antique rose gardens, pine trees, olive groves and age-old oaks. The swimming pool on the edge of the ancient olive grove is the ideal place in which to relax.

Strolling along the numerous pathways that run through the estate’s woods you will discover extraordinary cultural and natural treasures. Moving down towards the Tevere valley we come across fossil-rich walls, ancient Faliscan tombs dug into the tuff and the imposing later-medieval ruins of De' Giacanti Castle.

If you enjoy experimenting in the kitchen you can choose from the many fresh products produced every day by our organic farm: vegetables, pulses, spelt, fruit, meat, cheese, eggs and an extraordinary olive oil which is the indispensable complement to all our dishes. The barbecue is at your disposal for pleasant evenings among friends or romantic dinners.

If you prefer to dine on the genuine and tasty traditional recipes, we will be delighted to offer you our specialities, prepared with all our enthusiasm for good food. Our famous homemade pasta, bread baked in a wood oven, seasonal vegetables and a wide range of other treats will help you rediscover the joys of old-fashioned healthy cooking in a family atmosphere. We serve our dishes on pretty wicker trays so you can eat in the peace and quiet of your apartment, under the porch, in the garden or wherever you prefer.

Your days will begin perfectly with the sweetness of our cakes and tarts made with our jams and freshly picked fruit.
