Agriturismo Poggiacolle - Tuscany

Poggiacolle farm is over 2 hills cultivated with vineyards and olive groves as in a typical Tuscany country tradition.

Our Tuscany farm produces its own Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Colli Senesi Chianti, Vin Santo and extra-virgin olive oil.

The farm covers a surface area of approximately 40 hectares. The vineyards stretch for about 7 hectares and the olive grove covers about 6 hectares. The rest is cultivated with seed crops (wheat, sunflowers and soya), pastures and woodlands. In 1999 we planted trees for wood in about 8 hectares of land, with a financial contribution from the European Union. The vineyard from which we obtain Chianti Colli Senesi is cultivated with 90% Sangiovese with the remaining 10% accounted for by Merlot and Cabernet. The vineyard for the production of Vernaccia di San Gimignano is cultivated with 90% Vernaccia with the remaining 10% accounted for by Malvasia and Trebbiano. The olive grove is composed of many olive varieties, the most important of which are leccino, moraiolo, correggiolo, frantoiano, maremmano and the American pollinator. We produce excellent extra virgin olive oil from these plants, with a deep green colour and delicate flavour.

The whole Poggiacolle farm products comes from organic agriculture.

The farm’s cellar is set in a farmhouse on the hill opposite the guest reception villa. This farmhouse, named Poggiacolle 2, was built in the year 1200 or thereabouts by the Hospital of S. Maria della Scala di Siena. The construction of a larger cellar capable of vinifying all the grapes produced by Poggiacolle is currently in the planning stages.
